so the first part in chapter nine says that we should work as hard as we can for God. Paul compares it to cometeing in a race. you work hard and you train and then the day of the race comes and you try your best to win all for just a stupid crown (or tiara if your wii bowling with brandon herb but what we are working for is worth so much more than that. We r working for God’s kingdom.

Then comes the second part of the reading. Paul here talks a lot about what some of moses group did which wasnt very good. They pretended to be very spiritual people. they all got babtized and they all drank the spiritual food and drink. Yet that was all they were doing. they were simply talking the talk and not walking the walk. in life the still caried out their sins of pagan worshipping and sexual immorality. As a result God did some pretty nasty punishments among which included killing them with snakes by the thousands and spreading their dead bodies over the desert. He did this to warn us. It can really connect to our lives. We cant simply get babtized and show up for church (or even SHYG) and still be good. you need to go out and be Christian like and resist temptations to sin and set good examples.

My Dad’s Better Than Your Dad

Three boys on the playground were bragging about their dads. One said. “My dad scribbles a few words, calls it a song and they pay him 50 bucks.”

“Oh, yah. My dad scribbles a few words, calls it a poem and they pay him 100 bucks.”

“That’s nothin’,” said the third kid. My dad scribbles a few words, calls it a sermon and it takes six people to collect all the money!”

1 Corinthians 7

So I opened my Bible tonight and looked at the chapter title…Marriage. Not a subject I really know anything about except for what I’ve seen being around my parents, friends parents, movie, etc. I’ve never actually experienced this for myself seeing as im only 16.

So in the first section of this chapter Paul states that it is good for men and women to be married and to have a relationship with another person. It then talks about the relationship between a wife and husband.

The next section is a command to those who are not married(hey thats most of us probably reading this). It says that we should remain unmarried…yeah most of us have probably dreamed about getting married some day and having kids and that whole wonderful fantasy. Now Paul isn’t saying that that is wrong but more or else stating that you can be single and it could mean that God just has other plans for you in your life(newsflash its not really your life. you might think it is but God’s got the power).

The next section is a command to those married. The command is this: don’t get a divorce.

The next section goes into more of what seems like a series of just rules and such. The first one being that if there is one person in a married relationship that is a Christian and the other isnt as long as the unbeliever is cool with it then they can stay together. But if the unbeliever leaves then it is ok that way the peace is kept.

The next part is a verse that I actually like in this chapter that more of us can relate too. It states “Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him.” I think this can relate to more than just being single or in a relationship. Like we don’t know what God has planned for us or what he’s doing in our lives we just have to give him control and just let him take us where he wants us to go. The entire next paragraph talks about how changing your status or situation isn’t what is important to how God looks at you. What he cares about is that you have become free through Christ and the blood he shed for us.

The next section is talking about how Paul isn’t telling people to completely change their lives (ex. get divorices, get married, etc.) but hes tell them to be free from concern. He wants us not to be concerned with what’s going on around us and in our earthly lives but instead we should have devotion and focus on God.

And then the final part of this section goes back to having the focus on marriage and fiances and things of that nature (again sorry but no experience on that part).

Now I know this was kinda a longer chapter and we couldn’t really relate to alot of it seeing as were currently high school students who even if we have a bf or gf we aren’t really looking at marrying them very soon but I think that there is something to take out of this. That would be that we shouldn’t stress over the situation we’re in on earth cause God is in control and only he knows where he’s taking us in life.

Corinthians 5

To be honest, when i first read this passage, i had no clue what to write or how to begin. The passage talked a lot about sexual immorality and how it’s nothing to brag about or be proud of. I think we can all safely say that this isn’t a foreign concept. i know for me personally, i hear a lot of people, at school especially, boasting about such things (cheating on girlfriend/boyfriend and such stuff…whatever) Honestly, i don’t know why you would do let alone brag about something like that even if it’s not necessarily true, i would like to think you’d be embarressed if anything. the only reason i can think of for publicizing such things is for attention (shallow much??). Anyway, Corinthians 5 goes on to say that you shouldn’t associate with these kinds of people. This is where the thoughts started churning for me. Doesn’t this sort of go against things we’re taught as Christians? To forgive people for their sins? Or how about the whole “every-sin-is-just-as-bad-and-wrong-as-the-next” mentality,huh? According to this, someones tendancy to lie, for example, would be just as bad as someone else’s sexual immorality. Society may not put those two on even playing fields but the Bible at one point does.

1 Thessalonians 2.17-3.13

ARRRRGGGG. my computer seems to hate this website… it deleted my original post from this section… ill try to make it as good as it originally was…. but…. yeah. sad face.

Lets do this thing! Background Info: Paul, Silas, and Timothy were booted outta Thesselonica. The new disciples/ chrisitans were left without their leader, and were struggling. Paul is writing this letter to them to offer reassurance. He begins with consolationg that he wanted to visit, but was never able to. So he continues telling of how he sent Timothy to check out what has been going on in his absense. He fears that they would become hopeless and lost without a leader. But alas Timothy returned with the good news that the Thessalonians were hangin’ in there. Paul continues in his letter by telling them to hang in there, for Jesus, and he offers consolation. Then he writes a blessing to them.

This is my short and edited version. My apologies ya’ll. On to Calculus!
